We should view government as the service provider of last resort. If you can't afford private education & security, you have public schools and police. Problem is government charges us for its services even when we don't want them, reducing our financial ability to choose.

Instead of auto-buying these services for people, you could give them a stipend and let them choose which private service they're going to spend it on. Gov collecting taxes to pay for services doesn't mean they need to provide the services themselves. In fact, it's a conflict.

Interesting. But are we successful at individually valuing what’s good for society? How would something like this play out in regards to funding a disease prevention program two years ago? How about legal representation? Where do you think this works best or worst?

Hmm but the problem that we as individuals aren't so good at valuing these services no? What if enough of us don't opt in for a vaccine program so the vaccine never gets developed. I'm wondering if you have any thoughts on this
