The handicap principle is strong IRL.

If real life were a video game, we'd be wearing masks, goggles and helmets 24/7 for marginal extra stats. Where's the disconnect? It's not much of a hassle relative to the significant benefits so is it just fashion norms? Should we all be wearing glasses even if we don't need em?

We don't understand and have insights informed from data on meatspace
Games show a player the stats.
Our real world requires verbose calculations about the nature of the real world to show the stats. We don't have the latter, and gamers aren't privvy to that

Privvy in that there aren't events that would make those seats feel relevant like "+2% critical chance where you see the crit numbers"
The equivalent for masks is "+60% chance of getting Rona", and seeing some physical bar filling up like dark souls status effects called "COVID"

Would be a cool feature for AR glasses later, to estimate/lookup stats on clothing of other people.

could come up with crowdsourced ways to classify clothing based on brand, weather protection, strength, etc
