The handicap principle is strong IRL.

If real life were a video game, we'd be wearing masks, goggles and helmets 24/7 for marginal extra stats. Where's the disconnect? It's not much of a hassle relative to the significant benefits so is it just fashion norms? Should we all be wearing glasses even if we don't need em?

Yes, everyone should be wearing ballistic goggles at all times. Not just for viruses but random projectiles.

There's many sides to this, to be short I think everyone should follow the general instructions provided world wide and wear them. Because that is part of the policy being set out, and we need to set and follow guidelines to get this stuff sorted out. However wearing a mask is

not easy. It is very easy to do wrong, and when you do it wrong the mask is tainted and could even become "dangerous". Look around in public places, people don't cover their nose, constantly touch it, consume food or drink while wearing it the list goes on.

I'm serious. I don't need my glasses most of the time but I wear them all the time now just because they offer extra protection. I'll probably always wear masks in crowded/confined spaces from now on. Just looking for a fashionable helmet now.

We don't understand and have insights informed from data on meatspace
Games show a player the stats.
Our real world requires verbose calculations about the nature of the real world to show the stats. We don't have the latter, and gamers aren't privvy to that

Privvy in that there aren't events that would make those seats feel relevant like "+2% critical chance where you see the crit numbers"
The equivalent for masks is "+60% chance of getting Rona", and seeing some physical bar filling up like dark souls status effects called "COVID"
