$184k is probably 1 day of trading revenue so this has to be about more than money. The optics on the conflict of interest with clients can't be worth it.

Sounds like they created a tool like or that they whitelisted to clients. The article states it "does not include any personally-identifiable information". But for how long? Expect more subpoenas in the meantime:

Yeah. It need not include any PII when it can assign every identified entity an id. The customer of the service can then request the underlying identity information if it's interested.
