Why don't we pay politicians more? Governor of California makes $173k/yr to lead a team of 800k (like Amazon), which generates revenue of $140b/yr (like Google). If we want top talent, shouldn't the CEO of CA get paid something comparable to the CEOs of these businesses?

Because they are VOTED in, not recruited or highly sought. Being in the position certainly does not mean qualified

Why aren't they recruited though? Shouldn't voters be out there trying to recruit the best candidates? You put them through the interview rounds, like any CEO, and then you take a shareholder vote.

"They".. Individuals have to decide to step into the limelight and be a public figure (subject to all of the public scrutiny that goes with it, and impacts on family). Ohh the days when people went into politics after having had a career. Today, politics is the career.
