Why don't we pay politicians more? Governor of California makes $173k/yr to lead a team of 800k (like Amazon), which generates revenue of $140b/yr (like Google). If we want top talent, shouldn't the CEO of CA get paid something comparable to the CEOs of these businesses?

But let's say CA's CEO role paid $100k base + 0.1% of gross revenue, wouldn't that be enough to entice some amazing business operators to enter the race?

You could pay them a billion a year and it wouldn't change the fact that there's no profit motive and that they exist to rent-seek off of productive people.
Also, they seem to manage to make themselves ultra-wealthy shortly after leaving office.

If revenue is not the KPI to measure a governor's success by, what is? Who defines these KPIs and who is tracking them? Where can I find them?

They get a lot my guy... corporate sponsors. 😂 oil, pharma, they are getting loaded by those guys. Guess that’s why they are working for those type more than for the general public...

yeah.. so, because we can't stomach paying up front, we resign to paying 100x more for corruption and misaligned incentives?

If you just gave him the money up front, he wouldn't have to steal it and instead could be focused on doing right by everybody.
