Hey Peter, just to clarify so we're on the same page -- the insinuation I'm seeing is that CB is selling customer data. This is *not true.* Data in our Analytics tool is fully sourced from publicly available data, and does not include any personally identifiable information.

Does that mean it is not augmented or informed by any information provided by clients at all? To rephrase: could another company arrive at the same exact product with data publicly available? Or, is some non-public info used to draw connections between addresses, other insights?

It is fully-sourced from public data, so yes, any other company can arrive at the exact same product with publicly available data.

How can someone trust your/Coinbase's word for it? Not that I'd compare Coinbase to Facebook but they also denied and denied until it was undeniable. Wouldn't it be easier to just not offer blockchain analysis services to the government?

We are a heavily regulated and audited institution. If we were ever caught lying or going against our T&C's, there would be dramatic consequences. Why would I risk that over a tweet? So please don't assume malice, it's disappointing that I feel compelled to say that.
