Playing Devil’s advocate, not talking about it does actually seem to make problems go away rather than continuing to draw attention to them. We were told Hacking Team would be “transitioned out” over a year ago but nobody ever followed up. Most people aren’t paying attention.

100% this. No comment is a standard corporate crisis move to try to make bad things go away. Corporate comms ppl with have a metric at which point they might fire up the damage limitation machine but usually something else for people to be outraged about will appear first.
