How much of a city's police budget comes from the state or federal government? What happens if a city decides that the city's police are only going to enforce a specific set of laws that is agreed upon at the city level?
It's already decided what laws to enforce and what to "deprioritize". Open container laws and indecent exposure laws are typically not enforced during spring break and Mardi Gras for example.
ya, so how about getting even more extreme with it? I don't know if we have any KPIs but we deprioritize crimes until the ratio of crime-based interactions is below the ratio of protect/serve-based interactions?
Used to be that police were sent to manage public order situations. Other crimes were investigated by detectives etc.
One of the main issues is the militarization and change in police training since the war on drugs.
