If UC & Cal State are doing online only in the Fall, why not *increase* the number of international students admitted?
Still a huge market for US degrees, they don’t need to be housed, and could solve a portion of the cash crunch... 🤔

Is this resize the slices or resize the pie? Presumably, the cost of the education is proportional to the resources (and quality) available to each student. The whole pitch is that these resources are rare/unique and cannot be obtained/offered at scale.

Maybe.. depends on what you’re paying for. Personally, I would always take a small class with 30 people over an auditorium with 300 because you get more manageable discussion, fewer distractions, more individual attention from the teacher, more accessible teacher for office hrs.

I think education will move to a “everybody watch this amazing video from the most engaging presenter ever, read this stuff and then break out in to small groups led by experts.” Video & materials global and super cheap at scale (or OS), TAs super cost effective < $5/person/hr.

The 4-year requirement also seems excessive given the number of generalist classes required (potentially as much as 2 years)

It could be more or fewer units/requirements and then the degree would mean something different. In terms of value in the job market, we have a test for every role and that matters 10x more than any degree.
