I am considering investing in certain emergency-related devices and consumables. I intend to sell at a 1000%+ profit, at a future date. The profit will reflect inflation, opportunity and carrying costs. Q: should I stock these supplies or will I be barred from making a profit?

If your purchase has to do with this crisis, your ethnics should be questioned. If you were in position for a future crisis, I guess that is fine. Depends on how well you sleep at night.

It would be for a future crisis. So, it's ok to profit from a crisis but only if you have set up your position X amount of time ahead of the exit? How much time in advance is enough?

I just don’t think it is ethical to profit from a future crisis. Definitely not 1000%. Couldn’t tell you what is right but I know that this would feel wrong. For Me.

What about this? I can stockpile masks now, and people can get masks later but for $10 instead of $1. OR, I don't stockpile masks now and nobody can get masks later, at any price. Which is better?

Interesting dilemma. Those masks that you didn’t stockpile would still go to people in need. Whether it be now or in the future. To clarify, do you mean better for society or better for you?

I couldn’t do that. But I don’t value money too much. If you knew you can turn a big profit by profiteering during crisis. Go for it. I don’t think it’s against the law but I would say that most would frown on it. Remember this guy?

Definitely better for society. Realistically speaking though, people don't stockpile for future crisis because chance of them making the right bet is too low which means they are most likely going to be losing money
