CA is issuing a statewide, mandatory STAY AT HOME order.
Those that work in critical sectors should go to work. Grocery stores, pharmacies, banks and more will stay open.
We need to meet this moment and flatten the curve together.

So, I'm not allowed to go out for a jog or hike? Where is the data supporting this level of isolation? Surely, I don't need to make a fake run to the supermarket just to get some fresh air?

I think jogging and hiking are fine. They have been. Stay At Home means "as opposed to going to an office or anywhere else you feel like."
Outside exercise that doesn't involve contact with a lot of other people is fine, as far as I know.

You might be right but that is not at all clear at the moment.

You can go out for walk or ride or to wlk your dog. You can go to the grocery store, you can go to the hardware store. You can order take away food. We’ve been doing it in Bay Area for a week now. It’s not that hard.

I agree that clear info is critical. All of these orders and changes are extreme and the more information the better. People shouldn’t be left guessing. Here’s a good resource for details: covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-exce

This is the exact source of the questionably “clear” information indicating that “all individuals living in the State of California to stay home or at their place of residence, except as needed to maintain continuity of operation of the federal critical infrastructure sectors...”
Santa Cruz County have very clear info when they put order in place. I’m not trying to condescend / just trying to help make it clearer. I think the gist of the order iis to limit unnecessary interaction. Apart from rules given, the rest falls on us to use judgement.
