For all these companies looking for bailouts, what prevents them from raising capital the old fashioned way? Issue more stock and sell it? Or, maybe sell all the stock you bought back with the rainy day fund you should have been holding on to?

That sounds like a lot of work, and what kinda director wants their free shares diluted before they get the chance to sell them. Free money sounds easier.

Well seems like not the end of the world. It depends on the terms as well. U.S. gov is largest stockholder of all corporations, may make sense to do loans to keep them in business. I’d like to see onerous terms though. Like Warren Buffett gets for liquidity in a crisis.
