IMO a clever TLD can be a distinguishing factor for your team and dapp. If nothing else it shows me what branding thought went in to your project. Simply going with .com, .net or .org seems lazy to me.

Obviously there are exceptions to this and having an A+ level .com, .net or .org is still a huge business asset. But starting a new project from scratch gives a huge opportunity to show some flavor by picking a unique and expressive TLD.

I'm always fearful of going with a non .com TLD where the .com is unavailable and could potentially become hostile. Whether you can get away with it probably depends on how tech savvy you can expect your visitors to be.

With the explosion in new TLDs it's like an ICANN/IANA shakedown for a company to own every tld for their business name (and all common misspellings). I wonder what the worst case is of someone buying some random new tld and impersonating a large biz.
