You want the government to step in and regulate more biz? How would you enforce this globally? The gov is already stifling competition by imposing massive costs on social networks by drowning them in subpoenas for data. Gov doesn't want privacy features. Regulation is a moat.

I feel like the point here is "Facebook will continue to make a surveillance capitalist most around their Network. Industry won't shatter that as easily as government, so maybe gov should step in bc people shouldn't be trapped on FB?"

That makes the switching cost of going from Twitter -> Mastodon as easy as withdrawing from Binance and into your Kraken account. To your point they can't make FB delete data (bc subpoena), but imo it's still an argument worth debating
