    Also, I genuinely believe some executives intentionally refuse to get close to their employees so as to make it easier to cut them later. Blaming the workers themselves for this is deranged!

    In my time working in newsrooms, the workers themselves have been the ones coordinating birthday greetings, parties, happy hours, etc. I only met the CEO of my former company once and he absolutely did not learn my name. The rules only ever go one way!

    In addition to every other criticism of this woman, the underlying premise—that workers will become absentee employees who don't know anyone's face or name—actually is an apt description *for CEOs and publishers* who spend all sorts of time flying to ski chalets
