Anas Haqqani came to the Serena today to say he is the foreign journalists’ friend and to urge the press to get out of Kabul and see the “real Afghanistan.” Also denied any rift at the top and said the Taliban want the U.S. and all other embassies to reopen.

It seems this partition has not been convincing for the Taleban as the university has just announced tht female students from morning & evening shifts will now be merged into one class scheduled for 1-4 pm. Difficult for girls/women to adjust.

I’m going to have to retweet this again, as it’s now flying around whatsapp and signal — photographs of smashed pianos, drum kits, and tablas in Afghanistan are of the RTA sound studio, whose instruments were destroyed on 27 Aug. They are not of ANIM. Misinformation costs lives.

What happens when you’re a journalist covering the story as women protest demanding the Taliban respect their rights in Afghanistan. Also beaten: protesters.

Afghan journalists say Taliban forces tortured them with batons, whips and electric cables for filming a women's protest. The Taliban also beat women protesters. At least 14 reporters have reportedly been detained and/or tortured this week, despite assurances of press freedom.

Must watch video from ⁦⁩: “Inside the Abandoned Kabul Mansion Taliban Soldiers Call Home”. Dostum’s mansion is one thing but getting a glimpse of these young fighters’ thinking and approach is also quite revealing

Good story on Havana syndrome. "One former UK intelligence official told the BBC that microwaves could be used to "illuminate" electronic devices to extract signals or identify and track them."

Dozens of girls with NGO are waiting at Mazar-i-Sharif airport to be evacuated. Founder is asking the state department for answers, and says “our girls aren't there for a ride, they're there because the US asked them to come forward”.

Jeez - really? They still do that? They did exactly that to me in Kosovo in 1998. I switched to on my return, with a stiff note to to tell them why. Still with pushing 25 years later.

I really want to thank for cutting off my mobile phone – without any warning – when I was in Afghanistan last week. Losing all comms with zero notice, not even cursory text, midway through a long drive certainly made my future a little bit more exciting.

Worth remembering amid the lionisation of the Pantshir resistance that it was Ahmad Zia Massoud - Ahmad Shah Massoud's brother - who as Afghan VP took $52 million cash in a holdall to Dubai, calmly declared it at the airport, and walked off with it (acc to a Wikileaks US cable).
