I swear to god @newegg I’m charging you for rent based on the square footage of this god damn table
Update: Turns out I don’t have a single USB stick in my entire department to install Windows with so I’m just going to be playing this game called “BIOS”pic.twitter.com/0paU0jEt4T
Update: The MSI Z370 Carbon Pro is a disaster. It comes with legacy BIOS boot enabled and routes storage through a legacy Intel storage option ROM, which is why it has SecureBoot turned off by default too. It says “Windows 10 Ready” but that’s apparently not Microsoft-trademarked
the good/bad news is Intel is pushing everyone to drop legacy BIOS entirely in....*checks notes*....2 years. It's a needed step, but it's going to be hell on customer support if we don't roll it out well.
Debatable. It's a way to lock in hardware to windows only.
I don't care about linux. I get that Microsoft and Redhat can pay/force/encourage OEMs to ship secure boot keys for them.
Add the keys you need to the secureboot using ovmf keytool. SecureBoot doesn't prevent you from booting a random OS, it prevents you from running a rootkit accidentally.
You should be able to boot any unsigned UEFI image with Linux Foundation's preloader.
