There was a decent amount of interest in this, so I made a slack for PUI science faculty (not only those who identify as women). Blog post describing the slack, with link to slack:

He was in fact the first African American to earn a PhD in *any* subject from an American university, one of the first ten people of any race to earn a PhD in physics from an American university, and one of the first Americans to earn a PhD in any subject in the US.

So many BAD takes on on these internets, w many folks wrapping it into their pet issues academia. I think there is a GOOD take - and it is that of the honest hardworking co-authors & those affected & people digging into the data - we're lucky to hear from them. 1/2

Reminder: opposing racism doesn’t require you to pretend that there’s no such thing as human ability, that IQ tests have no validity, or that genes don’t matter for human individual differences. Repeating easily-disprovable talking points helps no one.

The work to get a dedicated data repository and consensus on an open data policy took years of effort (starting w/NSF in 2005), both in setting up processes and in getting buy in. There was a lot of resistance. Submissions dropped. Its value is now very clear.

I didn't realize the deadline for this was coming up so soon. Don't be intimidated! If you got a PhD in evolution between May 2016 and Feb 1, 2020, and have published steadily, you should apply.
