    Paul Robeson was the son of a man who escaped slavery. He was a world renowned singer and actor. And he chose to spend his life fighting for oppressed people and against fascism. And the US government tried to destroy him.

    Because of his political views, Robeson had his US passport canceled, he was banned from performing in most US venues, he was attacked by white rioters, hauled before the Un-American Activities Committee and publicly denounced by Jackie Robinson and the NAACP.
