I am at the British Sociological Association annual conference this week #britsoc19 - there is paper after paper detailing the prevalence and experience of poverty, including food poverty.

Tory poverty shame:
16 million people in poverty

Wages lower than in 2010
320,000 homeless
24,000 rough sleepers
1.6 million food parcels in a year from Trussel Trust alone!

9 years of
#austerity that's seen suffering & deaths of
poor, working poor, #homeless & elderly. Just where's the ££ gone?? When@Conservatives have actually INCREASED national debt!!!
#ThursdayThoughtshttps://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2017/11/27/the-tories-created-two-thirds-of-the-uks-national-debt/ … -
UC and PIP assessments cost MORE than legacy benefits and make poor people destitute. It's an ideological, consciously cruel system that needs to be scrapped entirely when
@UKLabour are in government.

I'll tell you what else is shameful
@jeremycorbyn not being able to pay women their state pension for 6 years after the age promised in one of the richest countries in the world.#1959born -
I fall in this group - it's all been very wrong Janette.
-
Devastating and life-changing isn't it?
-
Just been awful Janette. Counting the years of your life away is dreadful too isn't it. I heard that McDonnell is talking to Waspi so I have hope of something to help us - McDonnell is a good man.
-
Yes, it's a nightmare for many. Let's hope so and soon more chance of help from Labour than the Tories that's for sure, Tories will do nothing without being forced to.

a lot go there as they are too lazy to get off their rear end to get a job not saying all but a lot .they have grown up expecting the gov to do everything for them most cant cook a good meal if they tried

Volunteered in a food bank have you? Know everybody's circumstances do you? If you met some of the decent, often hard working people forced to use food banks you wouldn't be so flippant with your comments. We are all only a lost pay packet away from it.
-
Jax, nobody is being flippant, but how many do you see with mobile phones, probably an xbox or ps4 at home, food banks have been around before conservatives got in, harvest festivals not come to mind?
-
I wonder how much more evidence you'd need to see before you acknowledge the welfare system is failing? Starving children on the streets? Lowest unemployment figures ever (incl. disabled people) suggest the majority are struggling working households..how dare they own a phone!
