John McDonnell: "The ideas that we've been advocating are mainstream. Opinion poll after opinion poll have said YES Bring Water, Energy, Rail Back into Public Ownership."
"All of this is common sense socialism."

Andy McDonald: The private companies running the East Coast Line have
#failed & the taxpayer will have to pick up a bill of up to £2bn! We must end the#Toryscandal of privatisation of our railways & bring them into public ownership.#ForTheMany.

JC the people where I live coukd really benefit from a nationalised bus service. We need more of them and they need to be cheaper please. Not many of us use trains everyday.
-
Sorry mate. Trains are what matter to people who live and work in London and so that's what we are focusing on. Maybe you could get a pushbike or something.
-
Oh yes forgot that HS2 is going to be crashing through Staffordshire's ancient woodland, people's homes and livelihoods. It will completely bypass Stoke and we will have to suffer a reduced train service to London when we can muster up the £145 fare. Still I could move to London
-
Excellent idea - that's the spirit! (In seriousness - all this talk of trains when for a little more thought and quite a bit less money, we could reregulate bus travel and bring enormous benefit to so many more people, many of whom desperately need better local transport)

That failed too. You're old enough to remember the disaster it was, stop trying to con your young followers who don't remember it.
-
No, it didn't, and we now spend three times more subsidising the failing privatised rail companies than British Rail ever cost.pic.twitter.com/KXUIqr29Jl

It's not all about cost. Since privitisation the network has expanded and improved massively. When nationalised, the trains in this country were a complete joke. Barely running, not on time when they did, outdated, falling to bits, dirty. It was awful.
-
But if you want to talk money, only 2p of every pound spent on train travel is profit for the private companies all the rest is spent on costs and improvements. If the government were to take over, including all the subsidies, it's just going to cost the taxpayer even more.

Small government and privatisation? Who's than keeping an eye on the taxpayers money. It's time for stake holders not share holders. Hope to see you soon in 10 Downing.

I’d say the growth in passenger numbers is a measure of success. The track is nationalised. We need more stations; more lines, more coaches.
-
More coaches are coming aplenty. The DFT tightly specifies the franchises. What we have is closer to a nationalised railway with certain aspects subcontracted. The only really privately owned bits are the rolling stock that is leased to operators.

Exactly, any service that exists to serve basic needs, health, power, travel, education etc should be publicly owned, not run for private profit.
-
And definitely water!

I don't think Labour like anyone mentioning Wales
I think they are concentrating on the False Promises & Empty Platitudes at the moment in the hope that the 'Many' will be unaware of years of Labour mismanagement in Wales
