Hah, I think it would be hard, it was clear what Avast were doing for years, but nobody really cared until the mainstream media picked up on it, and that seems hard to influence...

It took three months, interest from a bunch of influential parties and lots of negligence on Avast's part to get here. No, I don't think that it's such a simple gamble. Usually, even infosec vendors outed like this just get away with it, like Avast did in 2015.
