"The DEA predicts “a steady decrease” in the supply of opioids ... drug abusers “may shift to abusing heroin, illicitly produced synthetic opioids, and meth to obtain similar effects, which may further increase overdose deaths through at least 2020.”

I was notified by my PM Doctor that extended release meds will no longer be prescribed if patients are already on instant relief meds. Seems illogical and cruel! Thoughts?

This is happening in Colorado. I'm betting that more PM Providers will be switching careers!

Seems to me alcohol manufacturers are a more culpable target when it comes to disproportionate burden of morbidity and mortality among Native Americans

Are you a provider receiving intimidating letters from your Department of Health "gently," encouraging you to switch your patient to Belbuca/buprenorphine? DEA stops in regularly? We've got your back, because nobody else does

Treated pain vs untreated pain. Tell me again how opiate class medicines don't save lives. There is a hollow emptiness that pain carves out of us. This should not be happening when there are medicines available to treat pain. 'Opioids' do just that.

Programs and policies meant to deter opioid abuse should not force millions of Americans to lose access to critical medicine and live in pain. My administration will take care to balance both priorities.

In case some of you just don't seem to understand what life is like trying to manage a rare disorder, allow me to fill you in. While I don't yet have a diagnosis of EDS (which isn't uncommon for a woman my age), I have multiple dislocations and subluxations of my joints daily...
