I think people often underestimate how much the physical workplace translates into cultural norms. It creates tons of tiny queues for people that they don't belong, if you do it wrong. Cc

So true. The physical workspace directly & constantly impact ambient belonging, which our brains are always scanning for. I'm so damn proud of the work you & the team have done in SF @PandaRamo. It's both entirely functional *and* Belonging First. Can't wait for what's next ;)

Companies have indeed tendency to focus on the "attract" and forget the "retain and empower" factor... Fortunately some companies are doing the work. Too bad for the rest of them, if you consider that diverse company are more successful. Time to reach 2019 people!

I get the sentiment, but hiring more diversely is an essential step in building a great workplace. Part of changing culture is changing the mix of people in that culture. Obviously there are other steps, but hiring is a big one. 1/

To act like women will naturally materialise if your heart's in the right place is fantasy. The biases start in education and go right through recruitment agencies, & whole industry. Way I see it we need to take active steps at the recruitment stage, along with everything else.

Not if you don't tap into the right recruitment channels. In my experience its very hard to find diversity if you don't try different ways and places to hire candidates. I don't think it's as easy as you make it sound.
