18/ Pres Erdogan said on Sunday that the man Turkish forces neutralized was the leader of ISIS, Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al Qurashi. But ISIS hasn’t confirmed the news. Also a US official told VOA on May 1 that they couldn't confirm Turkish claims that the ISIS leader is dead.

17/ It is unclear if the mukhtar himself allowed the alleged ISIS chief or if Al Tahrir wal Binaa had given permission to the alleged ISIS chief and his men to use the compound. It's also not clear if the mukhtar, or Al Tahrir wal Binaa knew who these 4 men were.

16/ The stay of the mukhtar in the building was also short-lived. Towards the end of May, the mukhtar left. The alleged ISIS chief and his companions then moved into the building.

15/ In Jan and Feb of this year, internally displaced people moved into the compound after they got approval of Al Tahrir wal Binaa to do so. But already in March they left. Al Tahrir wal Binaa had decided to give the place to the mukhtar of the area, a local Kurdish man.

14/ With permission of Al Tahrir wal Binaa, the building was in 2022 turned into a religious institution where youngsters studied sharia and did Quran studies. But by the end of 2022, the institute was closed due to a lack of funding.

13/ After their defeat, that area was taken over by Turkey backed Syrian opposition groups Ahrar al-Sharqiya and Jaish al-Sharqiya. These two groups joined ranks last year. They are now called: Al Tahrir wal Binaa.

11/ Acc to witnesses spoken to by , the alleged ISIS group only recently had moved to the compound. Locals in the area claim that only between five and seven days before the Turkish-led raid “these new people moved into the compound”.

10/ Ordered by Turkey, the place where the raid took place was sealed off for 2 days. Only on Monday locals could visit it. There are no pics available of the body of the alleged ISIS chief, nor names known of the 3 arrested men. Nobody in Jinderis area knew the 4 men.

8/ As Turkish special forces and Syrian Military Police approached the house, they heard a loud explosion. Acc to a source, the ISIS leader had blown himself up and was dead. The fighting created heavy damage to the compound. These are some pics of the house after the operation:

7/ But one man, alleged ISIS chief Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al Qurashi, refused to surrender and opened fire at the attackers. The besiegers then returned fire with machine guns. They also fired seven rockets at the house.

6/ Acc to a witness, attack took place around morning prayer. Turkish soldiers +Syrian Military Police used loudspeakers telling occupants inside the house that it was surrounded & they should surrender. 3 men (companions of the alleged ISIS leader) surrendered &were taken away.

5/ Shortly before morning prayer time, 15 members of Military Police set up 2 checkpoints on the road north &south of the house. Remaining 35 fighters surrounded the target. As this house is large, it is also referred to as a compound/farm. This is the place before the attack:

4/ The Military Police is a mix of Syrian opposition fighters from various groups. They receive their pay and orders from Turkey. The main headquarters of the Military Police is in the town of Kafar Jannah.
