So much wrong with this. But to avoid being sucked into a Twitter hole, I’ll just ask: What exactly about this is brave? Serious question.

Who said I was being brave Sarah?
-
It was @ the replies to the tweet rather than the tweet itself. I’m trying to understand why displays of victimhood are still considered brave in the MeToo era. Everyone airs their story on social media, in fact it’s positively encouraged. So what’s brave about it?
-
I don’t think anyone is trying to be self congratulatory here, Sarah. Being “brave” really isn’t the point. For me, it’s an effort to be supportive and to lead the younger generation by example in hopes that they won’t accept rape as anything but a crime against them.
-
Sarah if you don't think it takes some measure of bravery not only to carry on after the trauma of being assaulted but to then share something so deeply personal, opening yourself up to criticism & scrutiny... I'm guessing you're lucky enough to have never been in that position

To say a woman can prevent this from happening by not putting HERSELF into a compromising situation is ABHORRENT. Jemima was not raped because she put herself into a compromising situation. She was raped because that man was a rapist. WOMEN who say otherwise need help.
-
If I had a dollar for everytime I went to a drug dealers house in my 20’s. I never got raped. I’m so sorry this happened to you. I hate that women/men/people would dare blame u. I hate that that man raped u, and hope u sharing helped others feel better about their own
#MeToo

Thank you for sharing. I hear &believe you. From 8 to 10 I was molested by someone my mother trusted. I’ve never talked about it. The amount of shame, guilt& helplessness is something that cannot be put into words. He was a professor. It wasn’t our fault.

Thank you for speaking out
it’s hard for a lot of us who have been through experiences like this whether it be rape or abuse, because we do not want it to be what defines us. It’s not your fault and it’s never ok.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

This is why I didn’t report medical malpractice involving the denervation of my clitoris in a surgery performed without my consent. Everyone I talked to initially, including therapists and my mother, found some way to blame me.
-
Oh I’m so sorry, it’s not your fault
-
Thanks. I know. For some reason, I was still afraid though.
