Courageous, accurate commentary by Dan. I’m sure stick-to-sports-Guy/girl is having a meltdown somewhere, but one of the many reasons I left is that I was tired of the pretense Dan discusses here.https://twitter.com/ErickFernandez/status/1151943048101814273 …

Stop what you're doing and watch this. @LeBatardShow responds to the racist "Send her back" and "Go back to your country" attacks against Ilhan Omar and other congresswomen. "If you're not calling it abhorrent, obviously racist, dangerous rhetoric, you're complicit." pic.twitter.com/ntOC2Seg3b

I did not want to wait for an athlete or coach to give me permission to discuss the broader issues and problems in our society. And even when receiving that permission, I wanted to be brutally honest, which is a tough deal when working in corporate America.

ESPN isn’t a political network, but to me (and Dan), racism isn’t political. It is right and wrong. Silence or tolerance of racism IS racist, because that means on some level, you’re OK with other people being dehumanized.

I do not blame ESPN for its approach, because their primary function is to serve fans and make money. But some things are just bigger than that.

EXACTLY. If you see something clearly racist, you need to speak out about it, no matter what the platform is. So courageous of Dan to speak out knowing he'd probably get in serious trouble, but what the president says and condones can't go unchecked.

I’m lost though because if we are to separate sports and politics. Why is Trump placing pressure on the MLB to help with Cuba?

And that’s what it boils down to. A lot of people at ESPN agree themselves with the President OR know close family and friends who do and don’t want to have to call them out (as Dan has) so they chose to stay silent cause it’s not affecting them in the least bit.

They aren't a political network, but they have very often made clear "Political" moves/decisions. When they hired rush limbaugh to do football on the weekend show (flop), or the other conservative they hired for another show. ESPN often swims in the pool of politics.

I think ESPN is clear that they come from the @iamcardib school. "They make money moves" That's all. Rush was hired as a $$$ play and when it was no longer worth it he was gone. When @LeBatardShow doesn't make them $$$ they will move on from him too.
