  8. Four years later, it still hurts that Stuart Scott is gone. I think of him and my grandmother often, as people I wish I would have talked too more, learned more about and soaked up their presence. Get to know everything about your loved ones today.

What you clearly don’t understand is that rapists aren’t in dark alleys. They are first dates. They are uncles. They are cousins. They are boyfriends. They are husbands. When a rapist or sexual predator decides to be that, it’s not shit we can do about it.

We spent less than 15 mins on Aaliyah's story in today's two hours. I promise y'all this show is about regular, non famous black girls that could've been any of us

I will say this to every cheap seat: Stop telling girls and women what we should do not to get raped, and tell boys/men TO STOP RAPING PEOPLE.

I don’t think many men understand that they’ve been taught to see sex as coercion rather than consent. That’s why I see , so many problematic men failing to understand why R Kelly is trash.

Also: Countless studies have shown that people — black people included — highly sexualize black girls and look at them as ✌🏾older✌🏾No different than how black boys are always looked at as advanced in age. It’s used to dehumanize us.

If you look back at the reporting during the R Kelly-Aaliyah marriage, it was a massive failure. Zero understanding of sexual abuse. Nobody treated this seriously. It was a collective shrug

True story: I interviewed Aaliyah in 1995, as an intern for the Detroit Free Press. I asked her if she was married to R Kelly, and she denied it. What I didn’t ask her is if she had ever been married to him. Even when she answered, I didn’t believe her.

Said this earlier to some friends. I do understand how her family feels, in the sense they want to protect her legacy and don’t want her to be known for this. But as Ernest says, the facts are there.
