Can't stop thinking of this passage in Dwyer's last column "In times to come, when we are all gone, people not yet born will walk in the sunshine of their own days because of what women and men did at this hour to feed the sick, to heal and to comfort."

I was a know nothing 24 yr old when I joined the Metro desk & Jim was always so supportive, collegial, passionate & inspirational. I wish I could write like him. But more than that I just try to be a good human being like he was.

I just spent a week in North Dakota, which in the last week has seen more coronavirus cases per capita than any other state. I talked with doctors, public health officials, families and hospital leaders about their concerns as the virus sweeps the Midwest:

Imagine running a K-7 school at home thanks to a virus ripping through the country. My story kicks off our series about how the pandemic impacts American families in ways big and small: Chaos — and Controlled Chaos

In Louisville, marches for Breonna Taylor are still happening nearly every night, and organizers say they have no plans of slowing down. For inspiration, many of them have drawn from the city's robust, if overlooked, history of Black activism. w/

Louisville hardly gets recognition as a hub of civil rights activism. But it was a regular stop for MLK, home to Anne Braden & 1st big southern city to pass local civil rights laws. That legacy continues w/movement for Breonna Taylor. W/

I spoke to a man in Kentucky a few weeks ago whose wife died of Covid. When he went back to work at his factory, he kept hearing coworkers talk about how Covid was nothing to worry about, a hoax. He got so upset he had to take a leave of absence.

Almost anywhere you are in the world, being Black means navigating impossible standards for acceptance. Two great pieces illustrate that: 1) w/story of former Credit Suisse CEO who lifted the bank financially but wasn’t “Swiss” enough

Also important to note that the recordings released did NOT include deliberations by the jurors. That would be crucial in understanding their state of mind, and whether they wanted the chance to pursue murder charges.

Yes, I definitely heard some jurors express real skepticism about some of the testimony. Based on the portions of the recordings I listened to, they were much more circumspect than AG Cameron made them out to be in his press conference last week.
