    What explains this? It could be that a lack of time and competing demands drive people to consume news they deem less reliable. This suggests that improving the quality of news content or teaching people how to “better consume” news isn't enough to address .

    Drawing from a nationally representative survey, we found that 1/3 of Americans rely on news platforms they acknowledge are less reliable — mainly social media and peers. The other 2/3 of the public consider their primary news sources trustworthy, mainly print and broadcast TV.
