So while I completely agree, you know what? I wonder about this sometimes *specifically* when it comes to initial concept realization. Examples off the top of my head: Linux, LLVM, Unix, C, git, DOS (?), Apple 1/2 (?)

I’ve had one engineer work for me who fit this stereotype. The only engineer I’ve ever fired for team-dynamic reasons. We stayed on good terms, and they are now happily running a solo niche consulting practice.

10x-ers may be good for startups, but are hell on companies emerging from startups. They block needed change to their architecture and become high risks: only they really understand what they've built. If they leave or burn out, you're sunk.
