8 months ago I felt the same, but remote-only has been transformative and I’m confident it’s now the opposite. (Note “only” — HQ + remote sucks.)

It is also important for those trying to improve an existing company. Making "remote first" part of change. It forces you to write things down, it improves communication and will allow you to attract talent you never imagined you'd be able to for your firm.

I think the keyword is flexibility in hiring and remote friendly, for those who need it and can work remote (devs for example), but office admin of course cant fully remote :))

Remote-only seems extreme. Remote-first seems aggressive. Remote-also seems good balance? Remote requires: 1/ maturity in people to maintain the discipline 2/ strong organizational processes to collaborate Getting these wrong might be a disaster for speed of deployment.

You know I love yah, but that’s Silicon Valley goggles right there. It’s entirely possibly to have co-located teams in other parts of the country. Talent everyone so remote strategic. But not first.

Holy hell I have some typos in there, but I think yah get it.

I miss out on way too many great and influential people because of engineering leaders concerns around remote hires and reluctance to shift operating model. Hopefully this trend accelerates.

How do you handle key collaborative, creative discussions in early stage? I’ve always found remote is great for well divided, focused work, but never seen whiteboarding/creative problem solving work nearly as well over video+audio. Something magical about f2f for that.
