Painful contrast between international rescue teams racing to save those on trapped submarine - hoping they can - and the appalling lack of help for migrant boats.

"Making these journeys less safe will not prevent them from happening. The failure to rescue, the decision to pushback, only puts the lives of people in boats at risk, it does not prevent other people from making those journeys in the future." bit.ly/3NfvDmP

„Um den feministischen Diskurs am Laufen zu halten, braucht es an ganz unterschiedlichen Stellen Menschen. Man kann nicht unbedingt in der Politik am meisten bewegen. Es braucht überall Menschen, die Lust haben, die Machtfrage zu stellen.“

The trade associations patting Gannett on the back are the same ones cashing in their political capital to buy pols' votes for the abhorrent, protectionist legislation, JCPA. The industry and its hedge funds have no strategy other than that. That's all that's left.

Gannett CEO's pathetic strategy: "“You know, consumers want content. They want local news, national news and content producers like ourselves, which have produced that news for a couple hundred years and have built a business model around advertising." No, they want service.

If I previously went in a submarine that was going viral, I too would use the opportunity to promote my podcast

Yes, the sub that's gone missing is the same one I took down to the Titanic. I wish everyone involved the best of luck. For my experiences, listen to my podcast: bleav.com/shows/what-am-

I do not much care about Twitter driving off journalists and pundits. I do care about it driving off the scientists on my COVID Twitter list and the communities--notably Black Twitter--that found their places here. The real harm is immense.

I’m still hoping to remain on Twitter, but we’ll see how things go. This was and should be an important outlet for scientists, although far more challenging in its new form. twitter.com/peterhotez/sta…

And a very fine chapter it is, . You have a goldmine there with the print and documentary records of early modern universities, much of the material still uncatalogued and largely unknown.

Behold these beauties published in honour of the great @APettegree! Congratulations to the editors @A_der_Weduwen & @lankian. I'm delighted to have contributed a chapter to the first volume.

My former employer, Advance, turned off its presses in Alabama, the culmination of a #DigitalFirst strategy begun in 2009. I always said: We must become fully sustainable digitally before the day when print is unsustainable. They went on to win two Pulitzers there. In LA....

This is where moral panics can end up and why certain politicians and the media are so keen to stoke them. For them, the manufactured ‘crisis’ needs a solution, which means government intervention - in this case, in schools with far-reaching consequences.

This is not Section 28. It's worse. Section 28 didn't mandate that parents be informed if a 16 year old said they were gay. It didn't say that straight students' well-being had to be considered in a school's decision to 'allow' students to be LGB. It didn't outlaw my trousers

In a move which will be seen as the PM taking on militant trans campaigners, teachers will be forced to tell parents their child is questioning their gender — even if the child objects.

The new guidance is set to spark a fiery backlash from the trans lobby and other campaigners, who will argue it is up to the children themselves to tell their parents if they want to change gender.

Under the new plans, heads in England will be told that parents must always be consulted if a child wants to be called another name, or wear a different gender uniform.
And the school will not be able to use the child’s new preferred pronouns until parents give consent.

Teachers will be ordered not to recognise a transition within the school gates if the parents do not agree with it.

And neither students nor teachers will have to call another pupil by their preferred pronouns if they do not want to.

Even if parents do give the move the green light, heads must also consider the mental effects on other children before approving the gender change, following a long period of consideration.
