We aren't going to be quarantined that long. Zero chance.
Has anyone modeled the effects of remaining quarantined for the next 12-18 months.... economically, geopolitically etc? Seriously, is anyone even thinking about this? I suspect the risks and costs would be MUCH greater than a staged reopening beginning in May.

Lockdown is NOT quarantine. The latter is somewhat rational. These lockdowns are a political response to fear of being held responsible by voters for COVID “overwhelming” (never defined) hospitals. They will be reversed when office holders believe they are politically harmful.

This is my burner, but had to chime in. If we reopen in May and there are undiagnosed asymptotic carriers still in the population then we’re screwed. Our medical infrastructure still isn’t sufficient... If we exacerbate this to reopen the economy it will be truly American. Sad!

We may have set something in motion that very few have any idea of. Look up James Wesley Rawles and he has a series of books that outline what has been set in motion. You cannot collapse half of the economy without The Crunch occurring, and it is going to be very painful.

12-18 months is out of the question. We may wear masks and such... but as soon as we get a couple treatments we can all get busy again. 'At Risk' folks may want to look after themselves more stringently. 18 month shutdown is a joke. Like suicide.

Total economic collapse will take 3months I would think. Evictions. Defaults on mortgages and auto loans. Businesses closing then supply chains falling apart. Crime waves. Food buying panics, shortages. What we need is a PLAN so people can see past this.
