Twitter is imploding even faster than I thought possible, so while I'm staying to watch it collapse, if it suddenly drops out this is my temp backup at Mastodon: @jeffdoctor@mastodon.social mastodon.social/invite/KGdJTUna If twitter disappears from the net before I can say bye, well, 👋🏻

Really appreciated this episode and excited for people to hear it. So often discussions on this topic get caught up either romanticizing DIY or romanticizing medical authority. really gives such a great baseline to show how both are complex and contingent

In our latest, we discuss the complicated history of DIY healthcare and DIY transition as a story of class struggle, and how this history can complicate how we talk about physician expertise, abortion, single payer, and more on.soundcloud.com/d2QnxNMzuyJHkm

makes happy that so many of my MD friends have reached out to say this episode was so cathartic. the state leverages the hard power of the social role of the physician in a way that sucks for all involved: care workers, care receivers & those who don’t even participate in the MIC

“[Policing] actually makes everything less safe…One of the ways it does this is in how policing has not just colonized our imaginations in the way it has taken over the concept of public safety…it also shrinks the way we move through space.”

“For months, Coastal GasLink has stopped us from accessing our own land to monitor pipeline work. Now we know what they were hiding,” said Tsebesa, a chief in the Likhts’amisyu (Fireweed) clan who flew into Lho Kwa by helicopter to monitor her territory.

DEI is almost always an add-on: if it were truly integrated you wouldn’t be able to reverse gains so swiftly. But then you’d need to change up the c-suite and leadership teams in a way that’d unsettle the status quo. Tech is short-term minded, and that pain is too much to bother
Quote Tweet
If you spent the last few years focused on DEI, your team prolly looks more diverse. Congrats. The work has just begun. During a downturn, employers often feel their main DEI tool—hiring—is hindered. They are wrong. My column in @TIME and @charterworks time.com/charter/624596

This is why we can't have nice things 🙃

Funny how when you lift the mask off the face of "progress" you usually find the hydra of settler colonialism, imperialism, capitalism, patriarchy, etc. This is why I worry that Indigenous people are being conned when they are recruited into most "space" and "tech" careers. twitter.com/a_yung_/status…

The "internet" are physical things that need a lot of land, water, energy, minerals, etc., and words like "cloud", "digital", "virtual", or even "metaverse" obfuscate the fact that they all rely on the same colonial dispossessions as everything else.

I can't find any literature on how cloud computing furthers Indigenous land theft so I guess I gotta investigate it myself. I'm betting most of our data resides on stolen land and the internet itself further entrenches this injustice. Yay 🫠

Internet exchanges, colocation facilities, data centers, etc. we need to ask: whose land are they on? Thought about this after listening to and reading 's article: "Landlords of the internet: Big data and big real estate" journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/03

BC RCMP's C-IRG operations to police land defenders & enforce injunctions on Wet'suwet'en yintah, squash opposition to Trans Mountain pipeline, and mass arrests at Fairy Creek cost $49.9 million over 5 years. Policing is pillar of settler colonial theft.
