It appears there was a release of gasses just before blast.
@jeff_foust Just showin' what's there.

@John_Gardi @jeff_foust That's cool. Hoping spacex has better resolution images than these.
@cakilpack I did some colour correction to make it clearer. I'm sure #SpaceX was running the cameras we view at launch for just this reason.

Here's an even earlier view of the blast.
@cakilpack If an umbilical came loose, it'd be easy to fix.pic.twitter.com/TlnmXNYff0
@John_Gardi when I first saw the headline I thought it was the used Falcon 9 or quote flight proven close quote rocket that blew up.
@cakilpack @John_Gardi NPR reported same immediately after the anomaly.
@Nekkid_Ape NPR and other newsies who don't regularly cover space can be forgiven for not always 'getting it right'. @cakilpack
@jeff_foust but what am I going to do with all these hot takes I have sitting around
@jeff_foust We are removing all unfounded speculation from our community.
@rSpaceX @jeff_foust That is pretty much it's definition. "The forming of a theory or conjecture without firm evidence"
@jeff_foust I'm pretty certain it was a rapid combination of kerosene and liquid oxygen that created the massive fireball. :) #Speculation
@jeff_foust Oh, but you know us rocket types can't resist speculating... :-)
@jeff_foust Are you telling me it *wasn’t* reptilian aliens in cahoots with the Mossad looking to spread mind-control chemicals?!
@jeff_foust Looks like something hit the rocket. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BgJEXQkjNQ … pause at 1:11pic.twitter.com/myhfVYoKQt
@jeff_foust @thehighfrontier what's wrong with speculation?
@petehague @jeff_foust IMO without facts and data, speculation at this stage does little to help, but can create harmful perceptions
@thehighfrontier @jeff_foust what harmful perceptions would there be? It's a rocket. Rockets can explode. Does anyone think less of SpaceX?
@petehague @jeff_foust that's just my opinion based on some of the stuff I'm seeing on here today
