This is strange. The SpaceX website claims 8,300 kg to GTO.

He said "we've actually flown a little bit more than that". I don't think he's listing the "max expended capability" as on the website, but rather where SpaceX is positioning the vehicle for sales. They likely don't want it competing with FH.
