Just look at the CF forums. “I can’t resolve this when using CF! Your resolvers are broken. When I use Cisco, it works!” And indeed, when using djbdns from 2004 that doesn’t implement any modern proposals, “it works”.

There’s nothing special about DNS. In practice, all legacy protocols are stuck to their original design, with the exception of HTTP, because people were forced to upgrade in order to access content they needed. For everything else “if it works, why spend money/time to change it?”
