TIL : it's not possible to encrypt a file with openssl ruby gem and decrypt it with the openssl CLI tool (openssl enc). Or do you have an hint for that ?

So it's possible by adding "Salted__" + salt at the start of the encrypted file, forcing hashing to MD5 and iteration to 1. Why the hell

Unless you have a strong requirement on the OpenSSL CLI I find a lot easier these days to use libsodium. There are a lot of bindings so even cross languages it "just works".
