If you complain that Github didn't warn you about TLS 1.0/1.1 deprecation, here's your warning for the future: Whenever you rely on old protocol versions with security issues that have been obsolete for a decade be prepared that someone might disable them.
Not supporting SSLv3 was an issue at $previousjob. The reason? LTS distros. When they are EOL’d, the new one has so many changes that upgrading is more dangerous than sticking to the EOL version forever.

There is no valid reason to support any version of SSL in 2018, and too many critically serious reasons to justify not supporting.
