https://twitter.com/jedisct1/status/950041650075701248 … Ububtu 18.04 — the next lts release — would ship Python 2.7.14. Thus, canonical will support it until 2023. I would be really happy if canonical decide to discontinue the support for Py 2.7, but it would be really painful for tham though.
“support” = backport critical fixes for _known_ vulnerabilities only. The rest of the world, including all the modules and extensions you need for your apps, will stop supporting it.

That’s correct. But what makes me sad is that the customers who would demand support for their favorite version — which are usually 2.7 for now. And there is a few customers who demands support for 2.6. If canonical decide to abandon 2.7, it would make my life easier.
