No, that's mostly because companies love to hire cheap, unskilled developers who can get something "working".

Even if you gave them libsodium, they'd probably zero out the nonce for crypto_box, etc.

I'm naive, but how many of these aurdino devices are there in the IoT and why isn't there a crypto library fro them?

Right now the best we have on these is https://github.com/cantora/avr-crypto-lib … . A set of primitives with no high-level API.
