The Rust community is toxic. Early adopters who used to love the language eventually quit.https://github.com/actix/actix-web

The Linux community was toxic for a long time (and still is to a lesser degree), yet Linux thrived. I'm hoping the same will happen to Rust.

The main issue with the Rust community IMHO is there is a clear separation between a cool kids club that models the language, its ecosystem and decides what the “right way to do things” is, and the rest of the community.

The Rust world doesn’t care about compatibility. It never did. Breaking changes happen constantly. Maintaining any non trivial project means spending a tremendous amount of time updating its dependencies, or partially rewriting it due to dependencies being abandoned/replaced.

the problem is not about the user. it's about how u face the problem. user may hate you break the changes without update the document. rewrite is hard. you rewite 4 or 5 times, yes, hard work. but user feel harder than you. they can't catch up the learn path

When you read the article spawning this discussion, you see that some members of the community are very good technically, but also definitely not doing their teaching in a very nice way…

is it really more toxic than other language communities? Or is this just an unpleasant but normal part of becoming a large community? It seems Rust is still Storming/Norming: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuckman%27s_stages_of_group_development … And for it's age, that seems appropriate.

Nah, it's just that people don't understand Open Source and the obligations of maintainers (hint: there are none).
