Which RFC? A RFC summarizing what parts of conflicting RFCs should be considered?

The Ristretto spec explicitly bars any other way of deriving points, for good reason. I believe using the method suggested by other specs makes it impossible to implement the ristretto255 group with more efficient curves.

Thanks for making it clear, Filippo! If the intent is to support other curves, that totally makes sense. Thanks!

that's why the Ristretto specification specifies One Way, and One Way Only, to do hash-to-group, so that implementors don't need to make a choice.
-
Having no choice here is an excellent decision. Thanks!

Sure. But my concerns were about incompatible hash-to-point functions.

The hash to curve in Ristretto is mathematically similar to the recommendation in the hash2curve draft for Ed25519 under the hood. What’s the new paper?
-
Hi Nick (and congrats). Maybe the H2C draft should be more explicit about this.
