The Fastly Lucet image is now available on the Docker Hub. `docker pull fastly/lucet` and you’re all set.

I assumed this docker image had lucet already built. Is this the same as the docker image that gets built from the repo?

To just use Lucet, especially now that LLVM supports Wasm out of the box, all we need is the content of `/opt/lucet` and `/opt/wasi`, that can be distributed as a simple and small tarball.

Agreed. I may publish a Docker container that contains only that so people can use it easily. Right now I am getting the env setup so I can play around.

I don’t think we need a Docker container at all. Really, just unpacking the `/opt` files anywhere does the job. There might be some hardcoded paths left, but that’s something I can take care of.

This doesn’t seem to be a priority, but really, we should make it work on (at least) macOS. Docker for Mac is painful and abysmally slow. I have a branch that works on MacOS but it’s very outdated.

Agreed. I imagine this would be allowing people to get introduced to it. If I show this at the LA Rust meetup, then I need a quick and easy way for people to get lucet running on their laptop. It may be slow, but they can get a feel for how it works.

The devenv_setenv.sh script installs local wrappers to make the experience feel a bit more native and natural. You don’t even realize that there’s Docker under the hood (besides the fact that it’s not super fast).

Going through that now. It takes a long time to get it initially setup though. Especially compiling all this rust code on a Mac! This is all very well done though.

I hear ya. Maybe adding a precompiled `/opt/lucet` directory to the Docker image would be good, then. And wouldn’t make the image much bigger.
