I feel like we have to stop assuming every computer might be running other people's workloads. There's a lot of people that would, given space to consider, not run these very costly protections against speculative-caching attacks. "Hi I trust my workloads?"

Given how much of the world is relying on cloud computing, this has a pretty huge potential impact. If you run your own private infrastructure, you can disable the mitigations at boot time.
