Is it art or science? Either way, it’s a warning about health in warming oceans... (1/4)

One struggle with teaching DAGs: Students like domain-specific examples in which they can intuit the right answer & so see how the DAG encodes intuition. But even slightly complex DAGs (those below) are hard/impossible to grasp intuitively, regardless of domain. >

Who do I write a sternly-worded letter to? Animals went into space before we did, just saying. The least we could do is name things after them.

Alice Wu did text analysis to show the outrageous misogyny of comments on econ job rumors. Has someone done text analysis of student evaluation comments to show the toxicity of comments that URM faculty endure?

A fixed effects Q for : Suppose I have geography that crosses state lines (eg commuting zones), but I want to include state FEs for whatever reason. I could add 50 (48-51) indicator variables, but is there a smarter way to do this? 1/3

Hard matzoh balls - the kind you can break glass with, or use as a golf ball, and that slip out from under your spoon when you try and cut them- are the only good matzoh balls.

First day of my Urban Oceans class, my students painted their first memory of Boston harbor. I’m looking at a lot of rainbow national grid tanks... still trying to figure out what this means....

TFW you see students' looks of horror when you export an excel file with dates to a CSV, then reimport it, and see the dates utterly changed.

p.s. This inquiry came out of a few conversations, and I'm constantly amazed how non-trivial it is.
