My experience so far: Most co's that try to build platforms end up evolving into tools for their early user base. Some co's that try to build tools for a specific user base eventually evolve into platforms. To build a platform, start w/tools for a set of users then generalize.

I'm starting to write the conclusion of the CNN chapter for our book, and want to suggest some other "patterns of connectivity" other than convolutions and fully connected. Anyone got interesting examples?

We've revised our survey paper "Computer Vision for Autonomous Vehicles: Problems, Datasets and State of the Art" Lots of new papers, better organization and more insights! (to appear as a book in Foundations and Trends in Computer Graphics and Vision)

Instagram still doesn't have an iPad app. Twitter still doesn't let you edit tweets or search DMs. You can launch with less than you think. You may not even need it, ten years later!

Back at work after a yr of parental leave, I am anxious. Meeting collaborators, I am anxious. Prepping for teaching, that I have done for a decade, I am anxious. A realisation: anxiety is and has been a big part of who I am. Maybe we're alike. Don't worry—I'm OK—may you be too.

Favorite recent jupyter notebook discovery - the %debug magic: 1. Get an exception. 2. Insert a new cell, type %debug and run it. An interactive debugger will open bringing you to where the exception occurred and allowing you to look around!

Don't take notes on a laptop; write them by hand instead. When you take notes on paper, you actually learn more, have a stronger conceptual understanding, and can better apply and integrate the material

One of my favorite ways to teach programming is using "I do, we do, you do": 1️⃣ I DO: Learners close their laptops to a 45 degree angle, and watch me live code and narrate my thought process. We discuss any questions.
