This from @BBradley_Mans is false. Section 1 of the Equality Act 2010 *requires* public authorities to consider socio-economic disadvantage & to exercise powers with due regard to reducing inequality. *This* government has *chosen* not to bring these provisions into force.(1/3) https://twitter.com/BBradley_Mans/status/1285902058529464321 …

Here is Section 1 of the Equality Act 2010. Why is @BBradley_Mans making this false claim, and will he correct it?pic.twitter.com/EuzZwLJaxo

I also note that AFAIC @BBradley_Mans never signed the Early Day Motion calling for Section 1 to be brought into effect. So this tweet is not only false, but pure virtue-signalling. If he was serious about this issue, why not actually do something?https://edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/51058 …

As @sundersays points out here this is pure catch-22. Distract from racism and discrimination by pointing to inequality and poverty, and then refuse actually to do anything about the latter.https://twitter.com/sundersays/status/1284862730906861573?s=20 …

Nov 2010. We risk being stuck in a loop where people propose to address class disadvantage whenever racial inequality is mentioned, while opposing proposals to address class disadvantage unless it can be raised during a debate on race inequality! pic.twitter.com/pB9hv8jNKT

Camden Council a good few years ago was citing the problems faced by white working class lads as an unrecognised group so was targeting actions for them.

The "country's most disadvantaged groups today in #Equality questions. White working class boys", is a narrative much favoured by the right and far right, such as the Spectator, Spiked, etc. It's also bollocks mind

It’s pure distraction. The same way that Men’s Rights are only brought up as a response to Women’s Rights or All Lives Matter is only brought up as a response to Black Lives Matter. Where is the action at other times?

It is the classic playbook of ensuring thr separation of disadvantage. If white disadvantage was to join forces from other groups instead of considering themselves particularly blessed, we may have very different politics.
